Get out and Experiment!
Are you ready for three days of DRONES? During this experience participants will complete various demos and simulated activates to help them learn all about flight dynamics, what drones are used for and how to fly them! Local speakers and trained instructors from NDSU’s Extension Service will lead this innovative class. All participants will bring home a model drone of their own on the last day. This “rain or shine” class will be moved inside the activity center if it is raining.
Explore the many ways science impacts our daily lives through hands-on experiments and interactive activities! Each participant of the Mad Scientist Club will get their own lab coat to use during the class and to bring home. A light snack and beverage will be provided each day.
To become an official River Hero you need a little bit of training, and in this single day camp taught by River Keepers, you can get just that! Learn all about the Sheyenne River and the trees and animals that call it home. Each participant will earn their hero cape after completing the various nature activities and a scavenger hunt. This “rain or shine” class will be moved inside the shelter if it is raining.
Imagine a place where students get to problem-solve, collaborate, communicate and build STEM skills through teamwork. Imagine a classroom where learning is truly personalized and students are motivated to achieve more than they ever thought possible. Students will participate in a hands-on learning experience using tools such as Lego Robotics, K’nex Simple Machine, Pixie Digital Storytelling and a 3D printer in this fun and challenging class! If you have taken SMART Lab before, you can continue right where you left off in a previous class. The North Dakota Center for Distance Education (NDCDE) will provide trained instructors.
This class allows participants to be engaged with hands-on experiments that encourage natural curiosity and provide an opportunity to explore and discover how and why reactions happen.
PODS Game Design is a locally owned business with an emphasis on inspiring youth of the Red River Valley to enhance their creativity through game design. All computers and software/programs are provided for these classes, no equipment is required to participate, making this class a great opportunity to experience computer programming.
Advanced Design: Minigames
Students will use variables, switches and conditional branches to make awesome minigames! Add to a previous project or start a whole new one as you learn how to make simple games like Flip the Coin and Hide and Seek, cool systems like Mining and Fishing and prove your worth as the undisputed champion in the Colosseum system! Previous experience in a PODS Game Design class is encouraged.
Advanced Design: Town Building Game
Students will create a town-building system, beginning with a town of a single house. Players must gather resources, purchase upgrades to make more buildings and find people throughout the world to move into the new houses. Students will program the resource harvesting system, the town upgrade system and the people who can live in the town! At the end of class, students will take their game home! Previous experience in a PODS Game Design class is strongly encouraged.
