Ages 8-12
Children are inherently curious! Through this preschool program, encourage discovery and help jump start your child’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at an early age. Each adult/child class will feature process-based activities. STEM Explorers will learn through play, experiments, and trying something new… and more than likely trying it again! The attending adult (mom, dad, grandparent, sitter, etc.) must be 16 or older. Please register by child’s name.

As the next level to our STEM Explorers class, students will learn all about a chosen core curriculum within STEM and will be given an experiment to push the boundaries of their critical thinking and expand their knowledge behind science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Who says you need an oven to bake? Some of the best recipes are those that require no baking at all and will leave everyone asking for more! Seasonal and themed recipes will be used to create delicious, sweet and savory food, ranging from baking classics to fun and innovative treats, with no oven or stove needed! Participants will learn the basics of kitchen safety, proper food handling, and food preparation in these single session classes. Each session will make two to three different recipes. Allergy Alert: This class may use wheat, milk, eggs, peanut, tree nut, soybean, fish, or shellfish ingredients.

Ages 6-8
We live in a world of fantastic and wonderful inventions. Come explore the most important inventions and discover all about famous inventors and how they have contributed to the world around us! Examples of inventions, the process of inventing, and the science behind inventions will be discussed and explored.

Ages 9-12
From Thomas Edison to Alexander Graham Bell, inventors have been crucial to our everyday lives. In this class, your child will put on their thinking hat and invent a product in teams! Throughout the inventing process, participants will have access to resources for their design, to help them finetune their invention! At the end of this course, they will present their invention idea to the class and have the experience of going through the creation process!

ZAP! Do not miss the chance to shock your kids with the knowledge of electricity! This course will expand on how electricity works, from an electric current, to powering a lightbulb, students will immerse themselves in what it takes to power the world!

Ages 9-14
With the assistance of the West Fargo Police & Fire Departments, we are thrilled to offer this program to prepare your child to stay home alone. Topics covered will include safety expectations, accident prevention and emergency planning. Each participant will receive review questions and an emergency magnet to personalize with their family after the class. Parents are encouraged to join the last 15 minutes of Home Alone Safety to ask questions and view a fire extinguisher demonstration.

Imagine a world without music; it wouldn’t be entertaining, right? Lucky for us, music is nearly impossible to get rid of entirely. Believe it or not, music is a mixture between art and science. In this class, students will learn how patterns of sounds create music, how music can affect our senses, and discover different ways in which music is created. Students will experiment with sounds and become immersed in how music can change their lives.

The West Fargo Park District has partnered with the West Fargo Fire Department to bring you a youth science class about this burning topic! Through demonstrations, experiments, and discussion, participants will learn about different types of fire, the fire tetrahedron, flash points, and fire safety.
