Golden DOVS Award and Outstanding Volunteer Service Recognition Luncheon
The West Fargo High School National Honor Society has been exceptionally outstanding in the area of volunteerism. For the past 7 years this group has volunteered for numerous special events hosted by the West Fargo Park District, including Teen Dances, Winter Day Activities, the Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance, Bouncin’ Bash, Easter Egg Hunt, Art Mania, Honkin’ Haulin’ Hands on Trucks, Autumn Pumpkin Party and the Spooktacular Party.
These students have been very professional, responsible and extremely diverse in all volunteer tasks assigned. They have face painted, decorated, set up, tore down, monitored inflatable games, interacted with all ages, assisted youth with any hands on art activities, served refreshments and danced with youth at a teen dance.
In 2007 the West Fargo Park District contacted the West Fargo High School and asked if there was a student volunteer program. The Coordinator of the NHS Student Volunteer Program was looking for volunteer opportunities for students to participate in and the park district needed volunteers to implement new events and programs for youth and families. From that day on the park district and the high school have created a lasting partnership by providing quality programs at a reasonable price for our community. This has been a win-win relationship for both organizations.
The NHS students have learned the importance of volunteerism; what it takes to run a special event, how to work with youth, teens and families and how to take pride in West Fargo.
Over the years, students have learned to become more professional; which can be as simple as not texting during an event, identifying the problem areas at an event and making adjustments as needed or by helping a lost child find their parent at an event.
NHS has been recognized during our special events and is thanked over and over again for their invaluable contribution. In 2014 they provided over 1800 hours of volunteer service for the West Fargo Parks events. NHS not only volunteers for the West Fargo Park District but they also work with other groups like the West Fargo Public Schools, Big Brother/Big Sister Program, Fill the Dome and Kiwanis. As a community, we are so fortunate to have an organization like this.
These students are great role models and represent the West Fargo community so well. Without the NHS support, the West Fargo Park District would not be able to run the events they do.
Thank you to the West Fargo School District and the NHS students for a job well done.
The West Fargo Park District is always looking for motivated employees to lead and assist with activities. New employees must complete a background check before starting work.
