Adaptive Recreation – Camp A Day

The Camp-A-Day Adaptive Recreation Program is for youth with developmental disabilities. Camp-A-Day will provide children with daily recreational and educational activities including swimming, crafts and field trips. The Park District provides transportation for the field trips, however it is the parent’s responsibility to arrange transportation to and from Camp-A-Day. Participants must be able to complete personal cares independently. All participants must complete the application for Special Needs Programs prior to attending camp.

Bone Builders

RSVP Bone Builders Exercise Program for Adults

RSVP+ ND invites you to take part in Bone Builders, a FREE exercise program that strives to work against the negative effects of osteoporosis. By doing some simple weight training individuals can protect themselves from osteoporosis related fractures by increasing muscle strength and bone density. Ongoing classes will meet twice weekly at locations in your area. Benefits of the program are improved balance, increased energy and mobility and increased bone density.

Cartooning with Steve Stark

Learn to create and draw cartoon characters! Steve Stark, area artist, will teach step-by-step methods on how to draw from head to toe and more. Participants will learn tips on how to draw people, animals and super heroes. Supplies will be provided. Each day something new will be taught!

Clay Class – Beginners

Carrie Savageau, local artist and art teacher, will share her passion for clay art. Create pottery pieces by using hand building techniques such as the coil and slab methods. Finished projects will be ready for participants six weeks after each class.

Youth will make a variety of projects using various mediums of art including many types of paints, chalks and modge podge. Craft items will be made of wood, paper and various materials.  Each week will incorporate nature, summer fun and other themes. Kids will be able to take home art projects each week!

Cross country skiing trails are groomed during winter months when snow conditions are favorable.

Dance Sampler

This 6-week program is for youth who would like to learn the basics of jazz, ballet, hip hop and drill/kick. Qualified dance instructors from Halftime by Sheri will lead this fun and introductory class. Dress in shorts, tank top and tights. Dance shoes are commended but are not required. No previous dance experience needed. Bring a water bottle. This activity is held in the Veterans Memorial Arena Community Room.

Experimenting is Fun Camp

The West Fargo Park District and Camp Fire USA are teaming up to offer this camp for kids who want to learn about science, healthy eating and how money matters! Youth will experiment with science activities like illusions, magnetism, air pressure and more. Each day kids will make and eat healthy snacks while learning about nutrition and how to operate kitchen gadgets. In today’s world, learning the value of a dollar and how to develop a budget can be important if you want to buy a favorite toy or item. Kids will participate in fun activities on spending and saving money.

The market will reopen again in July 2015!

The Farmers’ Market & Beyond was established in 2007 by the West Fargo Park District. The market provides local growers and food, art and craft artisans an opportunity to display and sell items to the public.

The focus of the market is to provide local growers with the opportunity to bring fresh produce, flowers, bulbs, jams, jellies, dairy products, meats, herbs and berries directly to the public. The Farmer’s Market & Beyond provides an opportunity to sell these unique, local goods.

Fresh Produce

We are actively seeking farmers and growers of fresh, local produce to join our farmers market anytime throughout the season.

Prepared or Processed Food

Food prepared or processed for resale in the State of North Dakota at the Farmers’ Market must comply with the North Dakota State University Food Safety Booklet.

Arts & Crafts

Items sold at the market must be made by the applicant. No imports or reselling is allowed.

Home-based Businesses

All home-based businesses are welcome. Please contact Kim Wangler at 433-5360 to reserve your days and times.

Food Vendors

If you would like to be a market food vendor, please contact us. This is a great fundraising opportunity for service groups in our area.

Booth Fee

Vendors are required to pay a booth fee each day they attend the market. These fees help cover the cost of advertising and other expenses. The fee is $15 per days. No power is available but generators are acceptable.

Non-Profit Organizations

Groups that focus on health, wellness, fitness and nutrition are always welcome to set up booths at no charge to help educate public on healthy lifestyles and promoting healthy communities.

Flag Football league is a recreational, non-competitive league designed for the participant to have fun and learn the basic skills of flag football.

  • All players need a mouthguard.
  • Football spikes are recommended.
  • Please request shirt size on registration form. Jerseys will be handed out at the first game
  • Please include school attending in 2014-2015 school year on registration form.
  • Practices will be held on Monday or Tuesday or Thursday evenings at 5:30pm or 6:45pm, according to schedule. Games will be played on Saturdays beginning September 6 (Additional games might be added on Tuesday and Thursday evenings).
  • Team schedules will be emailed and posted online at wfparks.org by August 12.
  • Teams will be limited to 14 players per team. Space is limited so be sure to register early!
  • Carpooling: For carpooling purposes you may request to play with two other individuals, however these two individuals must be in the same level and school as your child. These registrations must be mailed together or turned into the office at the same time. To help prevent errors in this process we encourage participants not to use online registration if making carpool requests. This procedure only applies to registrations received by the registration deadline.
  • Volunteer coaches are needed! We would not be able to offer this program without the help of volunteer coaches. Please indicate on registration form if you are interested in being a coach.

Funky Junk Art Class

Use your creativity and make funky works of art with a variety of kid safe items. Youth will complete at least 4 art projects which may include 3-D projects, wall art and more. Youth will be encouraged to work with wood, paints and several recyclable items.

Ice Skating Lessons

Ice skating lessons are open to ages 3 and older. Please see Course Content below for a more detailed description of each level.

Adult/Tots
If skater needs assistance, is unable to get across ice alone, or falls often this level is recommended. Instruction includes getting up from a fall, marching in place, forward marching and beginning stops.

Level 1 & 2
If the skater can make it across the rink by him or herself without assistance. Skaters will learn skating and gliding forward, stopping, two-foot hops, and bubbles, as well as an intro to backward skating and gliding. Skater should pass Level 1 to move to Level 2.

Level 3 & 4
Skaters will learn forward skating using the blades rather than marching and be introduced to edges, crossovers & three turns. Skater must pass Level 2 to move to Level 3 and pass Level 3 to move to Level 4.

Level 5 & 6
Skaters will learn backward edges, backward crossovers, hockey stops, and one-foot spins, as well as t-stops, spirals, lunges, and bunny hops. Skater must pass Level 4 to move to Level 5 and pass Level 5 to move to Level 6.

Level 7 & 8
Skaters will focus more extensively on edge work, turns, small jumps and spins. Skater must pass Level 6 to move to Level 7 and pass Level 7 to move to Level 8.

Jewelry Making

This class will teach girls and boys the skills needed to make their own jewelry. Youth will have fun making necklaces, bracelets, earrings and more while using trendy beads, strings, fabrics, and other materials.

Junior Air Pistol

This program is an introduction to shooting sports. The primary course objectives include instruction of safe air gun handling practices, sight alignment, trigger control, and an introduction to international style shooting events. Participants must be accompanied by a responsible adult. For the safety of all participants, adults, and coaches, any student that demonstrates inappropriate or disruptive behavior will be removed from class immediately. All required equipment and materials, including air pistols, supporting stands, pellets, targets, and eye protection are provided.

Junior Air Rifle

This 6 week Junior Air Rifle class will focus on sitting, standing, prone and kneeling positions when operating an air rifle. All air rifle equipment will be provided. For more details about this class, please see the Junior Air Pistol information.

Junior Rimfire Pistol

This program is intended to be an introduction to basic pistol marksmanship. The primary goals of this class are to teach participants how to handle a 22 caliber (rimfire) pistol safely and instruct them in the basics of pistol marksmanship including grip, sight alignment and trigger control. The course will be loosely based on the “Conventional Pistol” or “Bullseye” course of fire visit www.bullseyepistol.com. Participants need to be 12 years of age or older and must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult. For the safety of all, any disruptive behavior will result in immediate removal from the classes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own pistols provided the barrel is longer than 3.75 inches.

This program is for boys and girls 3 to 5 years old that have not yet entered kindergarten. This program targets personal growth, creativity, and imaginative thinking. Youth participate in arts, crafts, story time, and other activities.

Each child will build their own Lego project and then play with others with their new creations. Lego projects will not be taken home as they will be used by youth throughout the year.

Life on the Prairie Camp

The West Fargo Park District and Bonanzaville are excited to offer three camps where youth  can step back in time and experience the “Good Old Days.” Each week will include hands on activities, demonstrations and tours of historical buildings.

Experience a Pioneer school lesson, make fry bread and  hand crafted items from beading to embroidery.

Pioneer Farming, Traveling and Caring for Horses
Learn about pioneer farming and Bonanza farms with a hands on demonstration of corn grinding and how to travel by horse and take care of them.

Life at the Blacksmith Shop, Medical Building and Creamery
Learn about life as Blacksmith & Doctor, how to make ice cream and how dairy products were made and transported.

Little Picasso’s Painting & Drawing

Youth will work with paints and pastels while implementing and developing their drawing skills. Participants will be able to transform a favorite artistic drawing into a canvas creation to take home. The canvas and other art materials will be provided.

The West Fargo Park district is part of the FM Metro Basketball League. The FM Metro league consists of teams from the FM area and Casselton. The objective of the program is to provide an opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport of basketball through the development and operation of a supervised basketball program for 3rd thru 6th grade boys and girls. The program will seek to develop and promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, teamwork and skill development with emphasis on having fun. Please request jersey and short size on registration form. Missoula Children’s Theater

The West Fargo Park District is excited to be working with the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT). MCT is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre and has been touring extensively for 40 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year. A tour team will arrive in West Fargo with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances will be presented at the end of the week. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairy tales…a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included  are three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Actor/Directors. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.

Music – Discovering

This parent/child class is a great introduction to music. Parents will work hands-on with their child while being lead by Chaycie Kramer, KinderMusik Instructor. Participants will learn the fundamentals of music through singing, dancing, and exploring age-appropriate instruments. The West Fargo Park District and Bonanzaville are excited to offer this new day camp. Youth will get the opportunity to explore and learn about real planes, trains and automobiles. This interactive camp will give youth an opportunity to not only look at, but actually get into these machines. Youth will end the day with a fun craft to take home and a healthy snack.

RRV Fair 2-Day Camp

The West Fargo Park District, the Red River Valley Fair and Bell State Bank & Trust are sponsoring a 2-Day Camp geared toward urban youth during the Red River Valley Fair. Campers will be able to see the fair from a new prospective. Each day will be packed with fun activities, including visiting behind the scene of the Grandstand and barns, check out a carnival ride, complete a special project and maybe even get to see a band warming up for their big show! Scrapbooking

Participants will be introduced to many basic scrap booking techniques and complete a small homemade picture book to take home. Please bring 30-40 of your favorite pictures, stickers and some scrap booking tools you may have. Special scissors, cutters, glue and paper will be provided.

Soccer – Fall

This is a program for boys and girls 4 years old to Kindergarten. Games and practices will be held during this 5 week session. All participants must have a jersey for this program. To order a jersey please use Code 1390, unless you are using your jersey from summer soccer. Participants must bring their own soccer ball. Volunteer coaches are needed for this program, please indicate on registration form if you are interested. Rainouts will not be made up.

Sports Time and More

Get together and meet new friends! Youth will enjoy  kickball, soccer, football and basketball as well as having fun with the scooters, jump ropes, parachute, hula hoops and much more. Wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing for an hour of fitness and fun!

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean style of martial arts. The class instructor is Master Jerry Jenson. He holds a 6th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Hap Kido. First time participants receive the first 2 weeks free. Sessions run on a month to month basis, therefore you can join at any time.

Tennis Lessons

Tennis lessons are offered in the summer and held at the West Fargo High School Tennis courts . These courts are located on the south side of the Veterans Memorial Arena (parking is available on south-side of West Fargo High School).

In unfavorable weather conditions, tennis lessons will be held in the Veterans Memorial Arena, 1201 7th Ave. E. When lessons are moved to the arena, a sign will be posted at the outdoor tennis courts for daytime lessons. For evening lessons, please call the cancellation line, 433-5363 for latest updates.

The West Fargo Park District will provide Pee Wee level with tennis racquets, however all other participants need to provide their own tennis racquet. Tennis balls will be provided by the Park District.

Tennis Lesson Skill Levels
Participants should sign-up according to their skill level rather than their age. After the Pee Wee level, ages listed are guidelines rather than requirements. The Park District reserves the right to move individuals to another class if the one they are in has a low attendance.

Pee Wee (ages 4-6)
This class is for the youngest tennis players who want to play tennis. Tennis racquets will be provided. Parents are welcome to attend. Players must be age 4 or older.

Beginner I (ages 7-10)
Students learn basic tennis skills including forehand, backhand and serving. Emphasis on easy to learn games and drills.

Beginner II (ages 11 & older)
For players who completed Beginner I. New techniques taught with games and drills that are taught in Beginner I.

The Power of Magic Camp

Now you see it, now you don’t. If you have ever wanted to learn how a magician does magic tricks, this would be the class for you. The instructor will teach youth how to do many tricks, step by step. Learn about illusions that trick the eye and mind.

Toddler Time

This parent/child class for 3 year old children introduces participants to sports such as bowling, soccer, track, T-ball, and many others. Parents will work hands-on with their child while being led by a qualified instructor. Due to limited space, only the participant and one parent will be allowed to attend this class.

Ton of Fun

This is a program for boys and girls 4-5 years old. Youth will be introduced to games and activities such as bowling, soccer, track, kickball, T-ball, and various exercises. The last day of class will be at Stars & Strikes Bowling Center. This program focuses on basic rules and skills.

Track

Youth track is offered weekly in the spring and fall at the Veterans Memorial Arena. The activities are free, open to boys and girls ages 3-10, and no registration is required. Each week three track activities will be held for youth to participate in.

Youth Track will be held on Tuesdays, April 1, 8, 22.
No track on April 15.

2014 Hershey Track Meet Form

The Fargo Park District is hosting the Hershey District Qualifying Track and Field Meet. This meet is for boys and girls ages 9-14 as of December 31st, 2013. Participants may enter a maximum of three events. Forms may  be picked up at the Fargo Park District office or online at wfparks.org. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Must be turned in by May 9 to the Fargo Park District office.

The Hershey Track meet will be offering the following events; 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter dash, 4×100 meter relay, 800 and 1600 meter run, standing long jump and softball throw. The first two places in each category will advance to the Hershey State Track Meet.

Tumbling Tuesdays

This 4-week class is designed for 3-5 year olds (both boys and girls) who are just beginning gymnastics. Participants will work on tumbling and the balance beam to further develop fine and gross motor skills. Movement and music are used with stations and small circuits, making learning gymnastics fun.

Volleyball Skills Camp

The West Fargo Park District is offering a summer youth volleyball camp for boys and girls ages 9-13. Participants will be taught fundamental skills such as serving, hitting, passing, blocking, and setting. Instructors will be local college volleyball players. Participants need to wear athletic shoes and gym clothes during this camp. It is recommended participants bring water bottles with them each day.
